Agency: Apply to Cyprus Shipping Association, E-mail: info@csa-cy.org Tel.: +357-25-827882 Fax. +357-25-360675 Port Limits: The territorial waters of Cyprus contained within a line drawn 135° to the high seas from the Roman Catholic Cemetery, situated 16.5 cables north-eastwards of Limassol fixed Red Light, and a line drawn 108° to the high seas from the end of the south breakwater.
Sea buoys, Fairways and Channels: Directions for approaching Limassol are as follows: Approaching from the West, Cape Gata should be rounded at a distance of not less than 1nm, or in depths of more than 37m. Cape Zevgari should be kept bearing more than 278° until the water tower on the NW side of Limassol bears 354°, when course may be altered to approach the harbour. The harbour is approached by a channel dredged to a depth of 15m over a width of 150m. The centre line of the channel is marked by the alignment 248° of leading light. Between the harbour entrance and the quays a basin has been dredged to a depth of 15.0m over a width of 6600 metres. The channel is marked by a green fairway buoy Q (9) G 10 s. Entering territorial waters (12 miles) vessel must report to Limassol port control VHF CH-09.
Pilotage: Compulsory, however special permission is required for not using pilots. Pilots can be contacted through VHF ch 10 from 0600 hrs to 2400. Pilot boards the vessel at least 1 nautical mile from the port entrance.
Anchorage: Outside port, vessels can anchor in open roadstead with no draft limitations.
Out anchorages: Anchorage may be obtained from 4 to 8 cables offshore, in depths from 13m to 27m. The holding ground is good and although the anchorage is open S and E, vessels with good anchors and cables do not normally drag during gales. From October to April when NE gales occur, it is usual to anchor in a depth of approx. 22m. During the summer the prevailing Wind sometimes reach gale force in the afternoon, making boat work uncomfortable. For this reason it is advisable for small vessels to anchor to the SW. From October to March there are, on average, from 5 to 8 days in each month on which the weather prevents the working of cargo or else, at the anchorage.
