Petra tou Romiou- Legend has it that the goddess Aphrodite was born from the waves at this spot! Accessible from the old Limassol-Paphos road, this is the perfect spot to enjoy a romantic sunset or take a dip in the waters said to have magical properties!
Tombs of the Kings- Covering a large area of land to the west of Paphos this astonishing necropolis dates back to the 4th century BC and comprises open peristyle courtyards surrounded by burial chambers dug out of solid rock.
Mosaics & Odeon- Just a step away from the harbour, this is an incredible site with a number of wonderfully restored mosaics including those in the House of Dionysos, House of Theseus, House of Aion and House of Orpheas. The mosaic floors date from the 3rd to 5th century AD and are considered among the finest in the Mediterranean. The Paphos Odeon dates from the 2nd century AD and is used regularly today for musical and theatrical performances.
Chrysopolitissa- St Paul’s’ Pillar- The church was built in the 13th century over the ruins of the largest Byzantine basilica on the island. According to legend Paul the Apostle was flogged against a pillar in the courtyard before converting the then roman governor of the island to Christianity.
Paphos harbour & medieval fort- Originally a Byzantine fort built to protect the harbour the fort was rebuilt by the Lusignans in the 13th century, dismantled by the Venetians and then rebuilt by the Ottomans in the 16th century. The port today has a rather more tranquil role, watching over the bustling harbour filled with pleasure craft.
Sanctuary of Aphrodite- The cult of Aphrodite was extremely important in the ancient world and evidence of this can be found all over the island. Perhaps the most important is the sanctuary of Aphrodite in Kouklia in the Paphos region, not far from her legendary birthplace
Aphrodite’s Baths- Nestled in the woods at the entrance to the Akamas reserve is a picturesque grotto where legend has it the goddess bathed.
Akamas Peninsula- An area of outstanding natural beauty, the Akamas Peninsula is a haven for wild life and home to a number of endemic species, Lara Bay is also the breeding station for the protected Green Back Turtles.
Chrysorrogiatissa- The Monastery of Chrysorrogiatissa 40km north east of Paphos is dedicated to “Our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate” it was founded in 1152 by the monk Ignatios who found a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary off the shore of Paphos. The present building dates back to 1770 and houses an important collection of icons and other religious objects.
