Kykkos Monastery- The richest monastery on the island, Kykkos Monastery was founded in 1100 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It possesses one of the three surviving icons attributed to St Luke. The Kykkos Museum houses a priceless collection of icons, manuscripts and Cypriot antiquities.
Throni- The first President of Cyprus Archbishop Makarios III served as a novice in Kykkos and as his wish he was buried at Throni, a scenic location 3km west of the monastery.
Byzantine Churches- Ten Byzantine churches in the Troodos region are listed UNESCO World Heritage Sites, dating back centuries many contain priceless frescos and are built with steep pitched roofs. Particularly worth a visit are: Ayios Ioannis Lambadistis (Kalopanayiotis), Archangel Michael (Pedhoulas), Ayios Nicolaos stis Stegis (Kakopetria), Panayia Asinou (Nikitari).
Troodos Visitors Centre- The visitors centre close to Troodos Square is the first of its kind in Cyprus and provides fascinating information on the Troodos National Park and the environment, its flora, fauna and geology. A nature trail is linked to the building.
