Village of Cyprus - Pachna
Situated on three ridges at an altitude of 745 metres, Pachna - divided into Pano (Upper) and Kato (Lower) Pachna - is a large, busy village of about 1,000, which has not suffered such an exodus of young people to the towns as other villages, so it has preserved its traditional style and customs, as well as thriving businesses and rural industry. It sits in the heart of the wine vineyards. Today there is a vibrant feeling about it and this includes strong religious ties that are reflected in the fact that there arc seven churches in the village -several of which are well worth visiting.
Coming from Anogyra, before you enter Pachna and right after the cemetery, look for the *Yaskouris Winery on your left hand. At the "Welcome to Pachna" sign, the road to your right hand will take you to Pano Pachna where you will find the Byzantine Church of Agios Yeoryios (St. George). The main road will take you to Kato Pachna and to the Linos Restaurant and the Church of Agion Petrou and Pavlou (Saint Peter and Paul). The chapel of Agia Marina is on the hill outside the village to the north.
Ask where you can buy local cheese and the finest yogurt and honey, too, or relax over a coffee and a snack.
