Village of Cyprus - Old Kivides (Pano Kivides)
Going south (towards the coast) on the E601 just below Agios Amvrosios, before you enter Kivides, you will see a sign to the left to Old Kivides. It's worth a small detour. The road from the E601 is steep and winding and is in part cobbled as was the traditional rural style for many years. This pretty deserted village was built on clay ground and every winter the whole village would slide a bit farther down the hill. In the early 1960's the inhabitants demanded that they be moved to a safer ground in what is now the large and modern village of Kivides. Do drive down (it's perfectly safe, but don't wander into the deserted buildings) and look at the old church and other buildings. Back on the main road, there is a petrol station, small shops and places to eat.
